Dashi is essentially the Japanese equivalent of chicken or vegetable stock in the UK. It is used as a base liquid for noodle dishes, soups, stews, and other Japanese cuisine. Although normally made by stewing bonito fish flakes and kombu kelp seaweed, nowadays instant varieties such as this are more frequently used.

How To Use

Dashi is the basis of all Japanese flavours:
• Add 1g of dashi to 150ml of water for a miso soup base that serves 1.
• Add 2g to 200ml of water for soup-based noodle dishes that serve 1.
• Add 1g to 200ml of water for oden or other stewed dishes for 1 person.
