This packet of dried kanpyo gourd strips, or calabash, are a must-have if you want to make your own authentic sushi rolls. When reconstituted, these thin, calcium-rich strips can either be added to sushi as they are, or given extra flavour by soaking in different seasonings such as dashi, sugar, soy sauce or mirin. They can also be used for tying together konbumaki, cabbage rolls and more.

How To Use

- For sushi: Soak in water for 10 mins to rehydrate.  Cut into sushi roll lengths. Add some salt and rub into the strips, then wash off. Boil for 5 mins. Add to sushi. Feel free to add other seasonings during soaks to add more flavour.

- For wrapping and tying foods such as konbumaki, cabbage rolls: Soak in water for 10 mins to rehydrate. Remove and drain and pat any water with paper towel. Tie your foods.
