A quintessential ingredient for Japanese wagashi sweets.

These small, deep red coloured beans have a distinctive boxy shape and are common to China, Japan and Korea. Boiled azuki beans are mixed with sugar to make a sweet bean paste used in desserts and the sweet soup shiruko. Grown in the Tokachi area of Hokkaido, these azuki red beans are sure to be delicious.

Azuki red beans are a pivotal ingredient in making Japanese sweets. Usually boiled, sweetened with some sugar, and then made into a paste, azuki red beans are used in a variety of dishes that range from dorayaki to yokan, and even sekihan. Try your hand at making authentic Japanese desserts from scratch with azuki red beans.

How To Use

•Soak for 1-2 hours.
•Drain water and replace with fresh, cold water for cooking.
•Place on the stove and bring to a boil in a large saucepan with a lid.
•Once boiling, reduce heat to low, while tilting the lid slightly to allow steam to escape.
•Leave to cook for about an hour, or until tender.
