All entrants must submit two recipes; one savoury dish and one sweet dish, both of which must be an original, non-Japanese recipe.

Gekkeikan sake must be the integral part of the recipes.

The dishes will be judged upon:

  1. Taste, flavour and texture
  2. Presentation
  3. Presence of aroma and/or flavour of sake

Entry is open to all chefs and experienced home cooks. Recipes should be in metric measurements and fit the description of ‘dinner for two.’ Applicant must be 18 or over as of 1 October 2015 and a resident of the UK.

Seven shortlisted finalists will be selected by Japan Centre.

Announcement of this event will be: Thursday 1 October 2015 on World Sake Day

Closing date for entrants will be: Sunday 13th December 2015

Seven successful shortlisted candidates will be announced on: Thursday 31 December 2015

The final will take place on Sunday 24 January 2016 between 11:00 – 17:00 at SHORYU Liverpool Street. The finalists must be available to travel to the venue and attend the event on this date.


1st Prize:
One week trip to Japan (round trip flight and hotel) including 2 day training at Gekkeikan Sake Brewery School in Kyoto in February 2016.
2nd Prize:
Signature Dinner for 2 by Shoryu Executive Chef Kanji Furukawa coupled with a selection of Gekkeikan Sake
3rd Prize:
Case of Gekkeikan 2015 Gold Medal Sake with special Horin Riedel Glass Set
