Indulge in a childhood favourite with a Japanese twist, courtesy of this Melon Soda Float recipe. Melon is a favourite flavour for sweet drinks in Japan, and the striking, bright green colour of a melon soda is as lovely to look at as it is delicious to drink. Adding vanilla ice cream gives richness and body to the soda, making this recipe a tasty, easy-to-make dessert as well as a luxurious summer drink.
Allow ice cream to soften at room temperature for 10 minutes.
Pour cold melon soda into a large glass, then place a large scoop of ice cream on top.
Use a straw and spoon to drink the soda and eat the ice cream separately. You can also mix the two together for a melon cream milk shake. Top with a cherry for a nice colour contrast. Enjoy.
- You can use any type of ice cream flavour that you would like. Vanilla is the recommended flavour, but chocolate or even fruit flavoured ones could be an interesting flavour combination. - This drink is typical in Japanese sweets cafés and animé fans will most likely recognise it from many animé.
