• 2-3 hamburger patties
• 50g thinly sliced onion
• 2 tbsp wheat flour
• 1 tbsp tomato ketchup
• 2 cups water
• 1 cube of consomme
• 1 tsp soy sauce
• 2-3 eggs
• 2 bowls warm white or brown japanese rice
• 1 finely chopped lettuce leaf
• vegetable oil
• 10g butter

  1. Start making your rice now. If you’ve not cooked Japanese style rice before, check out our recipes for white rice and brown rice.

  2. Next, warm some vegetable oil in a frying pan. Cook your burgers for around 3 minutes over a medium heat. When they’re nicely browned, flip them over and cook for another 3-4 minutes over a low heat until they’re cooked through.

  3. Remove the burgers and leave to one side, reserving a little bit of the juices. Add butter to the frying pan and warm until it melts, then add the onions. Cook until they become translucent and tender. Next add the flour and quickly stir fry, then add the tomato ketchup and do the same.

  4. Add the water and the consomme and simmer over a low heat. Add about 1 tbsp of the cooking juices from the hamburgers, the soy sauce and a sprinkle of salt.

  5. Get a clean frying pan and cook your eggs. When they’re ready spoon your rice into bowls, top with the hamburger, sauce and fried egg. Get ready for a tropical taste sensation.
