Password and security of your account

Refunds on promotional items

Refunds for goods purchased under a promotional offer will be based on the terms of the promotional price. Your statutory rights are not affected. Once we have taken the payment for your order and dispatched all the items, we are not able to offer refunds for any discounted items with limited expiry dates.

Copyright and intellectual property

Applicable Law

These terms and conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and any disputes will be decided only by the English courts.

International Use

Japan Centre (On-Line) Ltd makes no promise that materials on www.japancentre.com are appropriate or available for use in locations outside the United Kingdom, and accessing www.japancentre.com from territories where its contents are illegal or unlawful is prohibited. If you choose to access this site from locations outside the United Kingdom, you do so at your own initiative and are responsible for compliance with local laws.

Expiry Date on Payment Card

Please ensure that the expiry date of your payment card is after the date you place your order. Payment is taken when your order is ready to be posted and in the event that the payment card has expired we will be unable to take payment and fulfil your order.

Stock Availability

Active items may not be true to current availability and items you order may not be in stock. We will not be liable to you/or any third party for any consequential or incidental damages (including but not limited to loss of revenue, loss of profits, loss of anticipated savings, wasted expenditure, loss of privacy and loss of data) or any other indirect, special or punitive damages whatsoever that arise out of or are related to stock levels.

If for any reason beyond our reasonable control, we are unable to supply a particular item, we will not be liable to you. Please note that we will attempt to deliver substitute lines should selected lines be unavailable unless you request us not to do so. You can also select to have the item removed from your order if you do not wish to accept an alternative product.

Substituted lines will normally be of identical or higher value than the original item ordered. In cases where the replacement item is of differing value, you will be charged the lesser of the two prices. If it is impossible to substitute an item, we will remove the item from the order and deduct the item price from the total order cost accordingly.

Although we will always try to cater for your orders, an order of large quantities of a line can only be fulfilled at our discretion. For example, if you were to make an order of 10 bottles of sake which would use up all of our stock, we may only deliver 5 bottles.
With fresh vegetable delivery, we will always go via weight displayed. If a vegetable in stock is larger than that displayed, we reserve the right to send less individual items making up the total weight ordered.

Acceptance & Contract

There will be no contract of any kind between you and us unless and until we actually dispatch the goods to you. Your order is an offer to buy from us. Nothing that we do or say will amount to any acceptance of that offer until we actually dispatch the goods to you. At any point up until then, we may decline to supply the goods to you without giving any reason. At the moment that the goods are dispatched (and not before), a contract will be made between you and us.

www.japancentre.com is available for non-commercial and domestic use only.
Japan Centre (On-Line) Ltd reserves the right to refuse orders from businesses or that we consider are for commercial or other non-domestic concerns.

Payment

Please note that for online sales we take payment at the point of dispatch and not at the checkout stage.

Please be also aware that on some bank cards our initial check for sufficient funds, taken on receipt of your order, may appear like a payment on your statement. This is known as a 'Shadow Payment'. This amount is not taken by Japan Centre (On-Line) Ltd, but taken by your bank and held, appearing like a transaction. We take one single payment on dispatch of your order and any amount held by your bank should be accredited back to your account within a week. Our online system allows for only one payment to be taken. If you have further queries about this 'Shadow Payment' please contact your bank. Japan Centre (On-Line) Ltd will not take any responsibility should any extra charges be applied to you by your bank as a result of your bank holding to your 'Shadow Payment'.

Delivery by external courier (DPD/ Parcel Force/ Royal Mail/Yodel)

All our deliveries are carried out using the external couriers of either DPD, Parcel Force, Royal Mail, or Yodel depending on choice. As such we are subject to their terms and conditions.

Please note there is a fee of £2.50 - £18.25 (depending on order size) for chilled order packaging.

Once your order has been received by us, we aim to dispatch your goods within 3 business days (Mon-Fri). However dispatch is subject to stocking levels, and for certain items (books in particular) there may be a long lead time. In such cases we will contact you for further instruction.

Once we have dispatched your goods, you should normally receive them within the timeframe of the delivery type chosen. However, while we maintain a close relationship with our delivery companies, and will attempt to rectify any delivery problems as soon as reasonably possible, the operation of the delivery companies we use is outside our control. Time of delivery shall not be subject to any contractual obligation, and Japan Centre (On-Line) Ltd does not offer any guarantee that your order will arrive within the delivery time-frame chosen. In the event of the delay of delivery of your order or a mistake in the order itself, Japan Centre (On-Line) Ltd accepts no liability for any associated expense, loss of profits or other losses incurred whatsoever. Failure to deliver on time will not entitle the customer to terminate their purchase contract with Japan Centre (On-Line) Ltd, or refuse delivery. Returns should be made using the instructions below.

Whilst we make every effort to deliver all your goods in the agreed time, we will not be liable if we fail to do so in part or in full due to circumstances beyond our control.

Delivery will be made to the address specified by you on the completed order form.

Chilled orders must be received on the day after dispatch. If you require chilled items to be delivered on a specific day, please contact us at enquiry@japancentre.com or place a note during checkout for your desired date of delivery and we will gladly do our best to arrange delivery as per your needs. Orders containing chilled items will not keep longer than the next day after dispatch and are not kept in chilled storage by the courier. The courier may offer the option to delay your chilled order to a later date by email, but please note that if selected, this may negate the potential of any refund on chilled items if a later date is chosen for chilled items.

We reserve the right to charge for any extra carriage costs incurred should the incorrect address be entered on your order. Until dispatch of your order please contact us to amend or add any delivery details.

www.japancentre.com can only be responsible for delivery to an address that has been registered with Royal Mail (www.royalmail.com). We cannot guarantee delivery to any addresses inputted that are not registered with Royal Mail.

Please note that P.O. Boxes are not acceptable for delivery addresses, as parcels usually require signature on delivery.

Refunds and Returns

Japan Centre (On-Line) Ltd operates a returns policy in accordance with the UK Distance Selling Regulations allowing you to return any item within 14 days of receiving delivery of your order. Please note that any postage costs incurred when returning your items during this period will be at your own cost, unless the item is damaged, or was sent in error.

This policy does not extend to any items which have been opened or whose seal has been broken, perishable items (such as chilled, bakery, meat or vegetable items), sealed audio, video recordings or computer software (which have been unsealed), and also does not include the refund of services carried out by Japan Centre (On-Line) Ltd as part of your contract (eg handling costs). Items must be returned in pristine and resalable condition. This policy does not affect your statutory rights.

Please note that any refunds made for incorrectly ordered items are subject to a 50p processing charge per order. This is to cover the processing fee that is charged by our payment service provider, Braintree.

After the 14 day period we will be more than happy to accept items for return in any of the following cases:

  • The item was found to be damaged or faulty. We will either replace the item or give you a full refund (including postage costs). Please state which option you would prefer. If you require a replacement, we will wait to receive the faulty copy from you before dispatching a new one.
  • The item was incorrectly supplied. If we have made a mistake in fulfilling your order, a full refund (including postage costs) will be given.
  • It must be in pristine and resalable condition.
  • It must be accompanied by a copy of the delivery note or receipt.

Short Shelf Life Items

If you choose to wait for any out of stock items from your order to come back in stock, please note that any limited expiry date items in this order will automatically be removed.

If your order contains short shelf life items, you have agreed to accept responsibility for taking into consideration processing and delivery times and that these items therefore may arrive with you having exceeded the shelf life dates. We will not be liable in these instances.

Returns Instructions

Items supplied to customers should be returned in their original packaging to:

Please make sure you contact us before returning any item. Any item returned without our knowledge will be refused.

Please also note that the items remain your property until we have received them. You are therefore responsible for your goods while they are in transit to us. For your own protection we recommend using a secure recorded delivery method such as Royal Mail Special Delivery.

Provided the conditions above are met Japan Centre (On-Line) Ltd will refund the item(s), and postage where applicable.

Please note that returns are accepted at the discretion of the Japan Centre (On-Line) Ltd. If any goods returned do not adhere to the above policy, then we reserve the right to impose a charge proportionate with the costs of processing the items re-sale.
Refunds will be given in the same tender type as the original payment.

Please allow 28 days (in addition to the delivery time) for the return and refund to be processed.

Miscellaneous

You may not assign, sub-license or otherwise transfer any of your rights under these terms and conditions.

If any provision of these terms and conditions is found to be invalid by any court having competent jurisdiction, the invalidity of that provision will not affect the validity of the remaining provisions of these terms and conditions, which shall remain in full force and effect.

If you breach these terms and conditions and Japan Centre (On-Line) Ltd ignores this, Japan Centre (On-Line) Ltd will still be entitled to use its rights and remedies at a later date or in any other situation where you breach the terms and conditions.

Japan Centre (On-Line) Ltd shall not be responsible for any breach of these terms and conditions caused by circumstances beyond its control.

A person who is not a party to these terms and conditions shall have no right under the Contract (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999 to enforce any term of these terms and conditions but this shall not affect any right or remedy of a third party which exists or is available apart from that Act.

Item Shelf Life

Please note that we aim to send items with a shelf life of 1 month minimum, however exceptions do occur.

Chilled items must be consumed by the date on each item.

Prices

We will make all reasonable efforts to present accurate information but we cannot guarantee the price or our ability to supply any particular item.

All prices shown on www.japancentre.com are to be seen as guide prices, and do not constitute an offer to sell. Formal formation of a contract and acceptance of your order only occurs once we dispatch your ordered goods from our store. Until we formally accept your order, placement of an order will constitute an offer to purchase. Occasionally our suppliers may increase their prices unexpectedly, and this is often something we become aware of only upon ordering stock from them. In the event that this occurs, or in the event of a pricing error howsoever caused, we will check with you to see if you still wish to receive the item at the new price. All prices are displayed in pounds sterling (£), and include VAT where applicable.

In regards to magazines, as publisher prices can vary from issue to issue based variations in content, prices listed for magazines are seen as a guide price subject to change after the magazines have been received. If the magazine price difference is less than the guide price, we will charge you the lesser price. If the overall magazine price difference is more expensive we will automatically charge the higher price if the overall price difference is less than £3.00 of the guide price(s). If the overall magazine price difference is over £3.00, we will contact you for confirmation before payment.

By purchasing products from japancentre.com, you agree to participate in the japancentre.com Online Loyalty Points Programme and the Programme's associated terms and conditions:

- The Loyalty Points Membership Levels programme is effective from 6 February 2017. Any points accrued before this date will be applicable to your Level Points amount from the start of the original Loyalty Programme.


- Loyalty and Level Points are earned on purchases of Japan Centre (On-Line) Ltd products/subscriptions made directly at japancentre.com and Japanese Centre Fresh only.


- Loyalty Points can be redeemed online during checkout at www.japancentre.com only. At this time, points cannot be redeemed in any other Japan Centre Group store or location.


- Japan Centre (On-Line) Ltd will determine the rate at which Loyalty and Level Points are earned on each purchase and the rate may change from time to time without notice. The purchase price eligible to earn Loyalty Points shall be determined by the product total after reduction for all sales, discounts, adjustments, credits, point redemptions and promo codes.


- Delivery charges, gift-wrap charges, packing and handling fees and other charges associated with the delivery of the products are not eligible to earn Loyalty Points. Loyalty Points have no cash value, are not redeemable for cash and are non-transferable.


- Japan Centre (On-Line) Ltd may from time to time award bonus Loyalty Points based on products purchased, purchase date, referrals, first-time purchases and other programmes developed or to be developed. The bonus Loyalty Point(s) awarded will be specified for each promotion. Additional terms and restrictions may apply.


- News and offers will be distributed by email only. As such, Online Loyalty Points Programme members must opt-in to receive promotional and marketing emails from Japan Centre and provide a valid email address in order to receive them.


- Additional personalised offers and coupons are distributed by email only. As such, Online Loyalty Points Programme members must opt-in to receive promotional and marketing emails from Japan Centre and provide a valid email address in order to receive them.


- Loyalty and Level Points are not valid until reviewed and accepted by Japan Centre (On-Line) Ltd.


- Japan Centre (On-Line) Ltd reserves the right to terminate, discontinue, cancel or amend the japancentre.com Loyalty Programme at any time and at its sole discretion without notice.


- Loyalty Points can be redeemed online at japancentre.com during checkout when submitting an online order.


- Loyalty and Level Points, discounts and japancentre.com accounts are personal to you and may not be sold, transferred, assigned to, or shared with family, friends or others. Accounts deemed to be in violation will either have Loyalty and/or Level Points removed or the accounts may be cancelled entirely.


- Loyalty Points expire 6 months after they are earned unless another qualifying purchase is made within that period. The condition of expiration period may be changed from time to time without notice. Expired Loyalty Points may not be reactivated or redeemed. Japan Centre (On-Line) Ltd may send email notifications as a courtesy to customers to remind them when Loyalty Points are expiring. Neither failure of the Japan Centre (On-Line) Ltd to send or the customer to receive an email notification, nor delay in sending or receiving of an email notification will extend the expiration of the customer's Loyalty Points.


- Return of products purchased with Loyalty Points is subject to the Japan Centre (On-Line) Ltd return policy which may change from time to time. Japan Centre (On-Line) Ltd reserves the right to refuse to accept returns of products purchased with points. Point adjustments in connection with the return of items purchased with Loyalty Points will be determined at the sole discretion of Japan Centre (On-Line) Ltd.


- The japancentre.com Loyalty Programme benefits and membership levels are subject to change.


- The Level Points needed for membership levels are subject to change and may change without notice. These changes will be reflected in any japancentre.com site material. If minimum Level Points are increased in the future, you will not be downgraded to a lower membership level if the requisite amount of Level Points was achieved before the point changes had gone into effect.


- Level Points are based on purchases of Japan Centre (On-Line) Ltd products/subscriptions made directly at japancentre.com and Japanese Centre Fresh only. Level Points accumulated from the purchase of Loyalty Points E-Gift Cards are not applicable to Level Points. Birthday points and Introduce a Friend points are also excluded from Level Points.


- Birthday points will be automatically added to the customer's account based on the date that is registered during the initial account creation. The amount of points added will be dependent on the customer's membership level and as shown on the Points System page. The point amount awarded is subject to change and may change without notice. Amendments to birth dates can only be performed by customer services when emailing enquiry@japancentre.com. Birthday points are not applicable to the Level Points amount.


- Upgrade vouchers will be sent as a promo code via email to the email address signed up with the customer's japancentre.com account. Customers are required to have a valid email to ensure receipt of this promo code. Upgrade vouchers will be sent after the Level Points necessary for membership level upgrades have been applied to the customer's account. The promo code's validation period will be for 1 month after receipt. Japan centre (On-Line) Ltd. will not be held accountable or responsible for any delays in receiving emails based on third-party mail clients or internet server issues. Japan Centre (On-Line) Ltd. is not responsible for any failure to not make the purchase within the validation period. Promo code validation periods cannot be extended due to negligence on part of a third-party or the customer.


- The Seasonal Discount Days for Silver level customers and above are decided at the discretion of Japan Centre (On-Line) Ltd. Promo codes will be sent via email for the Seasonal Discount Days the evening prior to the start of the seasonal discount day. The validation period is 24 hours as set out in the email the customer will receive. Customers are required to have a valid email address associated with their account. Japan Centre (On-Line) Ltd. will not be held accountable or responsible for any delays in receiving emails based on third-party mail clients or internet server issues. Japan Centre (On-Line) Ltd. is not responsible for any failure to not make the purchase within the validation period. Promo code validation periods cannot be extended due to negligence on part of a third-party or the customer.


- The Free Delivery Days for Platinum level customers are decided at the discretion of Japan Centre (On-Line) Ltd.  Customers will be made aware of Free Delivery Days by email. The minimum spend for each location differs based on country. For the United Kingdom, the minimum order subtotal is £50. For other countries within the EU, the minimum order subtotal is £75. This offer is not applicable for countries outside of the EU. This offer is valid on standard deliveries within the UK by Yodel/DPD only, or by standard delivery by Parcelforce/DPD for the EU. Free delivery is valid on orders containing dry food products only and excludes chilled/chilled bakery orders. Packaging fees are not considered part of this £50 total. Discounts on postage for 'before noon' or 'next business day' deliveries are not applicable and postage must be paid in full for these delivery types. Promo codes will be sent via email for the Free Delivery Days the evening prior to the start of the offer. The validation period is 24 hours as set out in the email the customer will receive. Japan Centre (On-Line) Ltd also reserves the right to “unregister” and make ineligible for the japancentre.com Online Loyalty Points Programme any japancentre.com account that has been inactive for two consecutive years. Inactive is defined as having no purchase activity.


-All payments for japancentre.com are processed in British Sterling (£). Any other prices listed on japancentre.com are for guidance only and subject to international exchange rates and fees. Please check with your bank as to their policies on foreign payments and exchange rate fees.

• To be eligible for this service, your delivery address must be within the EU.

• No other items should be added to the same order. If other items are required, please make a separate order.

• Payment will be taken on the 1st of every month.

• Boxes will be dispatched during the 1st week of each month. Deliveries will not be made on Saturday or Sundays.

• Dispatched with Free Standard Delivery (24hrs after dispatch) to England, Wales and Parts of Scotland. For delivery to Europe and other UK locations, standard delivery charges will apply.

• Subscriptions are auto-renewed monthly, every 3 month, or every 6 month based on the selected plan.

• If payment fails on the initial order or renewal, we will cancel your order. You will be notified of the cancellation by automatic email, and you will have to wait an additional month if you wish to continue your subscription. To avoid this, ensure all payment details are correct and up-to-date. If any payment details change, please cancel your subscription and place a new one.

• If cancelled midway for 3 or 6 month plans, refunds are calculated by subtracting the full price of the individual boxes already dispatched from the original total amount. Please be aware that a 50p handling fee is applied.

• If a subscription is cancelled and you wish to restart it, please place another order on our site.

• To change your subscription plan or box size, please contact enquiry@japancentre.com and we will cancel your current subscription, previous terms applicable, and ask you to place another order for your desired subscription.

Japan Centre Tea Subscription Service

We offer a subscription service for a wide range of Japanese teas, in which you can have the same teas delivered regularly to your door every 2 weeks, 4 weeks, or 6 weeks.

• The Tea Subscription service is only available with products featured on the Tea Subscription page. Other products in japancentre.com’s Tea section must be bought with one-off orders.

• No other items can be added to Tea Subscription orders. To order other items, please make a separate order.

• We guarantee that all Tea Subscription items will be dispatched at least 2 months before their Best Before date. If any product in your order has a shorter Best Before date, japancentre.com will contact you directly.

• In the event of an item in your Tea Subscription being out of stock, you will be contacted by japancentre.com about item substitution or removal. These stock changes will only affect the single delivery and your regular Tea Subscription order will resume once the original item is back in stock.

• Tea Subscriptions are auto-renewed based on frequency and continue until the subscription is cancelled.

• When a Tea Subscription order is placed, you will be given a total price for each renewal. This is a fixed item price that will not change, regardless of any price fluctuations (such as discount offers or changes in supplier prices) incurred by the tea products. Delivery charges are subject to change based on annual/courier price changes.

• A Tea Subscription cannot be changed after the initial order has been placed. If any changes (including the addition/removal of items or the frequency of deliveries) are required, the Tea Subscription should be cancelled and another order placed with the desired changes.

• Tea Subscriptions can be cancelled at any time before payment has been taken for your next delivery. To cancel your Tea Subscription, login to your japancentre.com account and select ‘Subscriptions’. Select the Tea Subscription you wish to cancel and click ‘Stop’.

• All Tea Subscription orders are entitled to a 30% discount on every 3rd order, provided that the order has remained unchanged and not been cancelled. Any cancellations or changes will result in voiding the discount tally.

• To be eligible for 50% off the delivery charge, your delivery address must be within England, Wales, and Parts of Scotland. Standard delivery charges will apply to orders delivered outside this area.

Japan Centre Fresh Subscription

Japan Centre Fresh is a bi-weekly meal subscription service for those wishing to experience the joys of cooking authentic Japanese meals. Healthy and tasty, these meals are portioned out for you so that all you need to do is cook following our step-by-step instructions.

Our subscriptions come in classic, vegetarian and family packages, with the choice of 2 servings or 4 servings per meal. Family subscriptions are only available in 4 serving sizes.

• Japan Centre Fresh Subscriptions can only be delivered to delivery addresses within England, Wales, and Parts of Scotland. This excludes Scottish Highlands and Isles, other Parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands.

• No other items should be added to the same order. If other items are required, please make a separate order.

• The cut-off time for placing subscriptions is Thursday 11:59pm for the following week delivery. Japan Centre Fresh Subscriptions will be delivered on the selected day (Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday). Subsequent deliveries will be delivered every 2 weeks.

• For delivery purposes (if not present during delivery), a safe place must be designated during checkout. If no safe place is designated and no one is present for the delivery, the order may be disposed of by the courier. Japan Centre is not liable for any losses incurred.

• Payment will be taken the day before dispatch.

• Subscriptions are auto-renewed every 2 weeks for each plan.

• If payment fails on renewal, due to scheduling concerns and payment for subsequent orders, we will have to cancel your subscription. If you wish to continue, then you will need to remake your subscription. 

• Japan Centre Fresh Subscriptions can be cancelled at any time before payment has been taken for your next delivery. To cancel your Japan Centre Fresh Subscription, login to your japancentre.com account and select ‘Subscriptions’. Select the Japan Centre Fresh Subscription you wish to cancel and click ‘Stop.’ If you wish to cancel your subscription before the first delivery has been received, please contact japancentre.com at enquiry@japancentre.com or by phone at 020 3405 1151 to cancel your first order. You can only cancel your first order by contacting directly.

• If payment has already been taken for a Japan Centre Fresh Subscription delivery and you wish to cancel the delivery before it is dispatched, contact japancentre.com directly by emailing enquiry@japancentre.com or calling 020 3450 1151 Monday-Friday 9:30am-5:30pm.

• A Japan Centre Fresh Subscription cannot be swapped or changed after the initial order has been placed. If any changes are required, the Japan Centre Fresh Subscription should be cancelled and another order placed with the desired changes.

• Once a Japan Centre Fresh Subscription has been cancelled, it cannot be restarted. If you would like to resume using the Japan Centre Fresh Subscription service, please place a new order.

• Japan Centre Fresh Subscriptions can be temporarily suspended after your first delivery. If you are going on holiday or wish to skip a delivery, please login to your account and then click on 'My Subscriptions'. From there click on 'Manage'. On the 'Manage Subscriptions' page, press 'Skip Delivery' for any delivery you wish to skip. If you wish to have the delivery after selecting skip, press on 'Re-activate'. You can skip deliveries up to 6 months in advance.

• For health and safety reasons, all fresh meat and fish items contained in your Japan Centre Fresh Subscriptions must be eaten within 24 hours of dispatch. Please make note of the Best Before dates included with your delivery.

• Due to the fresh nature of some of the ingredients, Japan Centre Fresh Subscriptions cannot be returned, unless the goods are spoiled or damaged upon arrival.

• Due to the fresh nature of the subscription, someone should be available to receive the parcel. If known that no one will be in, leave a comment during checkout indicating a safe place, or contact us to let us know of any alternative delivery dates before dispatch.

• Contact enquiry@japancentre.com if you need to amend any delivery address for your subscription.

• All payment for subsequent orders are taken on the 24th of every month, or the next business day thereafter and dispatched shortly after payment. Deliveries will not be made on Saturdays or Sundays.

• To be eligible for 50% off the delivery charge, your delivery address must be within England, Wales, and Parts of Scotland. Normal delivery charges will apply to orders delivered outside this area.
