Combine Japanese and Western breakfast food favourites with this easy-peasy natto toast recipe. Natto is a Japanese health food made from fermented soy beans, with a strong savoury flavour and slimy texture strongly divides people's opinions - a true 'love it' or 'hate it' food. This recipe is fantastic for ensuring that you get your natto fix, whether that be for breakfast or later on in the day.

• 1 slice shoku pan bread
• 1 pack natto
• japanese karashi mustard

How To Prepare

  1. Cut yourself a wodge of shoku pan bread and stick it under the grill to make it nice and toasty. Be careful if you’re using a toaster, shoku pan is sliced more thickly than your standard British loaf and can get stuck if you’re not careful.

  2. In the meantime, put your natto in a bowl, add the included sauce and whisk with chopsticks until it’s nice and frothy.

  3. Spread the natto on top and decorate with Japanese karashi mustard, yum.
