Add the flour, baking powder, and the matcha green tea, to the sugar mixture. Stir well and your dough is ready.
Using a floured surface and well floured hands, divide the dough into 6 pieces and roll into balls.
Prepare some greaseproof paper or very light oiled foil, with some holes poked through, and place in your steamer basket. Begin to bring your pan of water for the steamer to the boil.
Flatten each dough ball and place a bit of red bean paste in the middle. Wrap the dough around the bean paste and place into your steamer basket, seam side down. Steam over a high heat for around 10 minutes.
Remove from the steamer and leave to cool a little bit, before tucking in. Serve with a nice cuppa or coffee for a nice tea time snack.
- You don’t want to crowd the steamer, so if your manju at looking a bit big for the basket, we recommend having a second sheet ready to pop-in when the first batch are done.
- If you’re feeling fancy you can add a little red bean on top for decoration, but we recommend doing this after steaming in case it gets soggy while your manju cook.
