Natto on Rice
Pour a well mixed serving of natto over a bowl of freshly steamed Japanese rice. This is a traditional
breakfast in Japan and the most common way in which natto is enjoyed.
Natto Spaghetti
Fry some garlic and onion in a pan with olive oil. Cook spaghetti according to packet instructions and add to the pan once cooked. Mix well with the onions and serve with a portion of natto on top. This is a more modern way of enjoying natto in Japan.
Kimchi Natto
Mixing kimchi with a serving of natto and serve on a bed of freshly steamed Japanese rice, with a soft boiled egg on the side. This is a deliciously strong and intensely flavoured way to enjoy natto.
Natto Sushi Roll
Use chopped natto as a filling in a sushi roll. This is a way of eating natto that is gaining rapidly in popularity throughout Japan.
- Natto comes in two varieties, either whole soy beans or chopped soy beans. Choose whichever one you prefer, they both taste great.
- Even though natto are a vegetarian dish, the dashi sauce that comes in the pack contains fish so simply swap that out for a normal soy sauce if you want a vegetarian option.
- Although natto may smell quite strong, don’t let that put you off tasting it, they really are a great dish and a perfect way to eat a healthy Japanese meal.
