Cool yourself down during the hotter summer months with these easy-to-prepare tsukemen noodles. Tsukemen literally means dipping noodles, and consists of plates of cold noodles and toppings that are dipped in a tasty broth before being eaten. Enjoy this recipe as a cooling midday meal, or have smaller portions for morning/afternoon tea.
Start by heating up the sachet of dipping sauce in tepid water. Please don’t put it directly in boiling water otherwise you may melt the plastic.
To cook the noodles, simply boil one a large pot of water. Add the noodles to the pot in small batches and stir them around gently for approximately 8 minutes.
While your noodles are cooking, we can prepare the soup. Open the sachet and put the sauce in a bowl before adding 80ml of boiling water and mixing well. Add any of the toppings listed in the ingredients above to your bowl of soup after you have sliced them into thin pieces. You can choose any ones you want, the only restriction is the size of your bowl.
Once the noodles have cooked, rinse them in cold water and drain the excess water in a colander.
Your dish is now complete, so sit down with some friends, serve up your noodles and soup and dip the noodles into the broth before eating and enjoying this delicious dish.
- If you want, leave the noodles in a bowl of ice and allow them to chill while you are preparing the other ingredients. The different in temperature when you eat is quite the experience.
- If you prefer your noodles hot, just boil them for 7 minutes and rinse them with hot water before serving.
