'Tis the season to be filled with curry. Try your hand at making this delicious but easy to make Christmas Tree Curry for your next meal. Adding just a little extra festiveness to regular curry with vegetable ornaments and aonori sprinkles, this dish is sure to please. 

Ingredients

curry sauce:
4-5 cubes japanese curry mix
1 large onion
1 large potato
1 carrot
800ml water

to serve:
400g cooked japanese rice
aonori seaweed sprinkles/aosa powdered seaweed
white sesame seeds
carrot and sweet potato slices cut into shapes

How To Prepare

  1. Cut the onion, potato and carrot into small chunks before adding them to a large pan half filled with water.

  2. Bring the water to boil and then simmer for 20 minutes or until the vegetables are soft. It is a good idea to start cooking your rice now.

  3. Remove the saucepan from the heat. Add 4-5 blocks of curry roux to the pot with vegetables. Turn on the heat to low and allow to simmer for 10 minutes. Keep mixing until the curry sauce is thick and smooth.

  4. Prepare the carrot and sweet potato slices as well and feel free to cook them according to your preferred method. You could boil or roast them to give them a distinct flavour. Once cooked, using either a knife and cutting by free hand or food cutters, cut out the slices into decorative shapes to serve as ornaments on your tree. 

  5. Cook your rice according to your preferred method. 

  6. Now to assemble your curry. On each plate place roughly 100g of the rice and shape it into a Christmas tree. Then sprinkle the aonori seaweed sprinkles on the main part of the tree. Sprinkle some sesame seeds on the trunk of the tree. Decorate with your carrot and sweet potato ornaments. Then pour the curry sauce around the tree. 

  7. Enjoy for a nice warm lunch or dinner. 

Tips and Information

Feel free to use other vegetables or pickles to decorate your Christmas tree.
