Add extra pizzazz to your harumaki with this recipe for eye-catching, kabuto-shaped spring rolls. Kabuto were the special helmets worn by samurai warriors, and their distinct triangle shape makes them a popular origami paper folding project. This recipe requires using origami skills to fold harumaki spring roll wrappers into kabuto shapes, which can then be stuffed with your favourite sweet or savoury fillings.

Ingredients

6-8 spring roll wrappers
1/8 pumpkin
30g cheese
1 tbsp mayonnaise

How To Prepare

  1. Place the pumpkin in a microwaveable dish and cook until softened. Mash the pumpkin, add cheese and mayonnaise or cream and mix well.
  2. Take the spring roll wrappers and fold into a kabuto (samurai helmet) shape. Fold them just as you would a piece of origami.  If you are unsure for how to fold a kabuto helmet, search for “how to fold an origami kabuto helmet.”
  3. Stop folding just before the last flap and stuff the kabuto with pumpkin mix and fold the last flap inside covering the filling. Wet the bottom edges with water to stick the wrapper edges together and press firmly to seal.
  4. Cook in the oven or fry until the wrappers become crispy and golden brown.

Tips and Information

- If you are looking for something sweet, you can also make ones filled with banana and cream as well.
