Experience how the unique flavours of Japanese alcohols lend themselves well to mixed drinks with this recipe for an 'autumn kaze' cocktail. This shochu-based drink sings of autumn with its warming coffee, vanilla and honey flavours that are then subtly highlighted with refreshing orange and yuzu citrus. Ideal for serving at cocktail parties.


50ml bizan shochu
25ml rye jim beam whiskey
25ml cointreau
10ml yuzu umeshu
40ml cold espresso (no sugar)
15ml homemade vanilla syrup
dashes of orange angostura bitter
3 coffee beans and half of a vanilla pod (for garnish)

How To Prepare

  1. Put all ingredients into a shaker, and shake vigorously. Then strain all the ingredients into a chilled coupe glass.
  2. Garnish with 3 floating coffee beans and half of a vanilla pod on the edge. Enjoy.
