Plum wine with herby hints.

If you like your wine to have a little extra character, try Choya's plum wine with extra shiso. This plum wine, or ‘umeshu’ as it is known in Japanese, is made by taking whole ume plums, soaking them in alcohol and sugar, filtering the liquid out and adding a handful of the same ume plums used during the stewing process for an extra strong plum flavour. Extract from shiso, or perilla leaves, has then been added.

ITEM ID: #6161

Background

Plum wine (or Umeshu, as it is known in Japanese) is made by steeping Japanese ume plums in alcohol and sugar until the flavour of the plum has infused into the alcohol. This combination of ingredients gives umeshu a deep, sweet/sour flavour that is delicious on its own, on the rocks, or as a spritzer. For more exciting plum wines and fruity liqueurs, take a look at japancentre.com's Umeshu & Others section.

How To Use

This delicious drink is fantastic as either an aperitif or digestif.
• Drink straight, on the rocks or with champagne for a truly indulgent cocktail.
• Mix Umeshu with lemonade or soda to make an ume sour.
• Add a splash to hot green tea to make a delicious winter warmer.
