An ornament you can eat.

Complete your Japanese New Year celebrations with this adorable kagami mochi. Similar to the kagami mochi of yore, this display features a mochi filled mould shaped in the style of a traditional kagami mochi, with an ornamental plastic daidai orange and decorative mizubiki (three-knot) string decoration. To follow the tradition, cut open this kagami mochi on the second Saturday or Sunday of January.

New Year's Day in Japan is the most important festival of the year. Each year families get together and eat special New Year food, or ‘O-sechi Ryori’. Many of these foods symbolise what the family are hoping for in the year to come, such as good health, love, or prosperity. Make this New Year one to remember by celebrating it Japan-style.

I've bought one of these every year for the past couple of years and they're beautifully made. (Trying to work out how the knot was formed got me into mizuhiki!) Very good value.
Looks beautiful sitting on my shelf. Can't wait to use it at the new year :)
It is a little expensive, but it is very important for ours to enjoy New Years day.
