Delicious Japanese comfort food.

Calm your insides or warm yourself in the morning with Taimatsu's pickled plum rice porridge. Known in Japanese as Kayu, this porridge is made using fluffy, chewy Koshihikari rice from Niigata prefecture, and flavoured with umeboshi pickled plum from Wakayama prefecture. Enjoy this soothing, yet refreshingly tart, plum flavoured porridge as it is, or add a sprinkle of bonito flakes for extra umami.

ITEM ID: #4233

Kayu is rice that has been boiled with a large volume of water to create a thick porridge. Eaten all over East Asia when one is feeling unwell (making it something like the Asian equivalent of chicken soup), kayu is also a great alternative to the oat-based porridges commonly enjoyed here in the UK for breakfast. Why not browse Japan Centre's Instant Rice section and discover our whole range of easy-to-prepare rice dishes?
