A chinese classic done Japanese style.

It is said that the women who first created this dish had freckles on their faces. The dish was therefore named 'mabo', combining the Chinese words for 'freckled', or alternatively for 'hot and spicy' ('ma') and 'aunt' or 'grandma' ('bo'). This ready made mabo tofu sauce has been made without the spice, so anybody can enjoy it. Stir fry pork, beef or chicken mince, add the Mabo Tofu mix and tofu, stir, simmer and add spring onion.

Background

South-East Asian cuisine is delicious and unique, but because it is such a different style of cuisine to what we are used to in the UK, it can seem a little intimidating at first. Thankfully there are all sorts of cooking sauces and seasonings available to make cooking food from Japanese and other South-East Asian cuisines much easier. Take a look at japancentre.com's Ready Made Sauces section for a great range of easy-to-use cooking sauces.
