One of Japan's most traditional desserts.

For a Japanese afternoon tea experience that is as authentic as possible, this variety pack of yokan jelly cake is guaranteed to please. These seven single-serve yokan come in plain, matcha green tea, ogura sweet red bean, and kuri chestnut flavours. Enjoy these by themselves, or together with a cup of matcha green tea.

ITEM ID: #3332

Background

Traditional Japanese cuisine includes a variety of exotic desserts, most of which are made with sweet red beans, mochi rice, and/or kanten agar. The introduction of Western-style desserts to Japan during the Edo period then introduced an extraordinary range of Western-style desserts, which the Japanese have embraced whole-heartedly and produce alongside their traditional desserts to this day. Check out japancentre.com's Desserts section for a great range of traditional and modern sweet treats.

The cakes themselves are a nice treat, but not for those looking for something really sweet (which is great for me). A little on the expensive side and there's a lot of plastic packaging but overall quite good.
