Background

Rice is well-known for being tricky to cook on the stove, as it requires constant care and attention to ensure that it neither burns nor turns out too sludgy. In countries like Japan, where rice is the culinary staple, rice cookers are an absolute lifesaver. Ever since 1956 these handy devices have rendered the task of cooking rice as easy as adding rice and water and flipping the 'on' switch. For more rice cookers and other handy Japanese kitchen utensils, take a look at japancentre.com's Cooking Equipment section.

This was bought as a gift. Recipients advise that it works very well as a rice cooker as well as the size being very convenient for a small kitchen. Haven’t used the other features as yet, steamer, porridge and cake making still to be tried.

Excellent quallity and very comprehensive instructions. We have a much more expensive one ( bigger capacity) but this one is better. I nearly bought a Japanese model from USA and a transformer - so glad I didn’t

Only just received it but like it. You've got to be a rocket scientist to work out water and rice ratio from manual but basically just follow the markers on the inside of the pot I think..but it's a lovely item..
