A Japan Centre dessert exclusive.

Treat yourself to a little sweetness with a Japanese twist, courtesy of Japan Centre's matcha green tea mochi dessert. Made by Japan Centre's own dessert chefs, these desserts consist of chewy mochi rice cake on the outside and a thick, matcha green tea flavoured cream filling on the inside. Enjoy for morning tea, afternoon tea, or dessert.

ITEM ID: #10981

Background

As Japan becomes more influenced by the West, more interesting fusions of Japanese and European cuisine appear, particularly with desserts. Mochi-based desserts are a quintessential example of a Japanese dessert concept (filled mochi cakes) modified with an assortment of European flavours and fillings. For a great collection of Japanese mochi-related items, check out Japan Centre's Mochi section.

The mochi was delicious however the filling a little too rich and sweet for my liking. Perhaps less of the green tea filling with some red bean paste instead would have been a better balance? \n\nFor those who like a ganache type taste.
