Tsukemen noodles are a close cousin of ramen noodles and are especially enjoyed during hot days when you don’t feel like eating a hot soup. Tsukemen literally means dipping noodles in Japanese and is enjoyed by serving cold noodles that are dipped in a tasty broth before being eaten. The popularity of tsukemen has grown since the beginning of the century and they now have their own dedicated food festivals across the country.
The great thing with this dish is you can add a variety of toppings according to your own taste and dietary requirements. These noodles are quick and easy to prepare so you can enjoy the rest of the evening with your family or friends! This recipe explains how to make cold noodles to dip in a hot broth.
• Itsuki Tsukemen Noodles – 1 Pack
• Water
• Chicken
• Beef
• Boiled Egg
• Cucumber
• Tomato
• Nori Seaweed
• Spring Onion
• Lettuce
• Narutomaki Steamed Fish Cake
• Inariage Fried Tofu
Start by heating up the sachet of dipping sauce in tepid water. Please don’t put it directly in boiling water otherwise you may melt the plastic.
To cook the noodles, simply boil one a large pot of water. Add the noodles to the pot in small batches and stir them around gently for approximately 8 minutes.
While your noodles are cooking, we can prepare the soup. Open the sachet and put the sauce in a bowl before adding 80ml of boiling water and mixing well. Add any of the toppings listed in the ingredients above to your bowl of soup after you have sliced them into thin pieces. You can choose any ones you want, the only restriction is the size of your bowl!
Once the noodles have cooked, rinse them in cold water and drain the excess water in a colander.
Your dish is now complete, so sit down with some friends, serve up your noodles and soup and dip the noodles into the broth before eating and enjoying this delicious dish!
- If you want, leave the noodles in a bowl of ice and allow them to chill while you are preparing the other ingredients. The different in temperature when you eat is quite the experience.
- If you prefer your noodles hot, just boil them for 7 minutes and rinse them with hot water before serving.
