Okonomiyaki literally means ‘grilled as you like it’. A speciality of the Osaka region, okonomiyaki pancakes are a delicious savoury dish that’s simple and quick to make. Very versatile, okonomiyaki can be made with many different meats, seafoods and vegetables to suit your own tastes.
For delicious and authentic tasting okonomiyaki:
• Add 100g of okonomiyaki flour, 120ml of water and break 1 egg into a bowl and mix well to get rid of any lumps. Add cabbage and other chosen ingredients and mix further.
• Add a dash of oil to your hotplate or frying pan and spread evenly. Pour the okonomiyaki mixture onto the plate or pan and grill until lightly browned. Flip over and repeat.
• Top off with lashings of okonomiyaki sauce, mayonnaise and a sprinkling of aonori and dried bonito flakes.
