Black plastic cup (masu) used for drinking Japanese rice wine (sake). A ‘masu’ was a standard sake drinking vessel that originated in the Edo shogunate of the 1600s. Ceramic short cups are generally used now with masu more of a Japanese nostalgic utensil. People use masu in important ceremonies, a ceramic cup overflowing with sake can be placed inside the masu and drank from to symbolise prosperity and reserved for those of importance.(7.5cm x 7.5cm x 4.5cm)
